Goldfields sightings
Hi all.
Eugene Armer visited us today, to catch all the railway activity in our area on a weekend.
First sighting was Sheltam's 31 class no. 22 being loaded with ore at old Saaiplaas 5#. She stood here for a very long time waiting for ore to be brought to the surface.
Next we paid a visit to the Sheltam loco shed to find out where the 32 class was.
We got her at the waste rock dump, after being loaded she headed to Harmony Central plant to off-load.
Then we headed to Harmony Surface Rail's sheds. Here we found plenty of staged locos, soon nos. 9 & 10 started up to start their shift. In between the rows of "steeple cab" diesels we found two still with manufacturer's plates on. General Electric June 1949 Made in USA, the other was December 1950. One of them still has the patent buffer that can also take the old bell buffer, still with a pin in it.
The next place of visit was at the exchange yards near the showgrounds. Here we got Harmony no. 1 that had just exchanged a load with RRL 36 01.
We got the 36 again at Niemandsland where she ran around and headed to Welkom station.
Last stop was at Welkom station. Here we got 36 01, 91 01, 91 03 & 91 04, 91 02 was standing in the shed.
Greetings.
J,J & E.
