Sightings

Hi all.

At Wesselsbron the Spoorbaan were busy at one of the level crossings in town, relaying sleepers, ballast the works. One of the other level crossings received this treatment several months earlier. The silos had plenty of mielie trucks.

We got Spoornet maroon E 1405 shunting FZ's at the silos in Bloemhof. Later on we got this train again near Makwassie. The single unit was crawling along on an extremely long load of mielies. Next a South bound load of ore came past also near Makwassie. This was behind blue E 10 116 and 3x maroon sisters. We noticed that all the newer liveried 10E's have had wire mesh fitted to the side windows to protect against stone throwing. This is similar to the ones fitted to the Metros. Between Harrisburg and Regina we found remains of the old alignment. Here we got TFR E 10 101 and 3x sisters on a North bound load of ore. This train slowed down and crossed with South bound blue E 18 384 and 2x sisters on a load of Lime. Greetings were received from all the crews.

Orange 34 499 headed through Welkom to Friedesheim with the timber train for Mondi. At Friedesheim orange 34 028 was waiting with the Bothaville pick-up return working. 34 499 Ran into the loop and 34 028 then proceeded towards Kroonstad with a short load of mielies and petrol tankers.

Greetings.
J & J.
